Buying a Mattress Online

A week before we left, I ordered a mattress from Amazon. That's right--we bought a mattress online and had it shipped to a friend's address. When Karen and I arrived in Mountain View, it was about 9:00 pm. We found our apartment and unloaded all of our stuff from the car, and then I went to Scott's apartment for the mattress. There it was on his doorstep: a five-foot-tall blue cylinder. After squeezing it into the back seat of the car and driving home, I lugged the thing inside, and Karen took this photo.
As we carefully tore the packaging open, the foam mattress instantly started expanding. Within an hour or two, the mattress was usable, and a day later it was at its full 8-inch thickness. It's amazing that they were able to pack it so tightly and ship it as a normal package.
It still seems weird, but after a few weeks of use, we've concluded that buying online is a great way to go.
