Keeping Busy
Since the last post, the excitement around here has been Andrew's glasses breaking, my bike getting stolen, going to the Palo Alto Zoo, going to the park, and wandering around Stanford University. Actually, my old roommate Melissa also drove down with her two-year old to hang out for a day, but I didn't get any pictures, so there's no proof that it actually happened. What was I thinking? Maybe it was a little much to lug all the baby gear, the picnic food, and catching up to think about taking pictures. You'll just have to trust me that we had fun. Oh, I also went to the beach with the Sandlands, but I don't have any pictures of that either. I was a little more concerned with keeping the sand and the sun away from Leah. Taking a three-month-old to the beach is an adventure, in case you were wondering. Don't worry, she came home unscathed from the elements, which is more than I can say about myself.
Andrew's glasses breaking and my bike getting stolen definitely were not fun.
Andrew's spare glasses are in Provo, so he's pretty useless until we get his new ones. He had to schedule an appointment to get his eyes checked and find glasses he likes as quickly as possible so that he can see sooner rather than later. In the meantime, he's borrowing a co-worker's old glasses that are almost the same prescription. I have to say, they look really funny on him; they just don't look right with his face. At least he can see better though. I'm stuck as the only one who can drive until his glasses come in.
As for my bike, I'm really sad that it's gone. I rode it on Saturday evening and locked it up around 8 pm. I didn't notice that it was gone until Sunday around 2 pm. Andrew found my cut lock on the sidewalk outside the apartment complex. My bike was the only one that was taken and none of the neighbors saw anything. It was nicer than the other bikes that were there, so I'm not surprised mine was the one picked. On the mildly bright side, Andrew's bike was at work because I had picked him up from work to go to the Palo Alto Zoo, so we still have his. I think his would have been stolen too, if it had been there. We're going to bring his bike into the apt from now on to keep it safe. And I thought the apt couldn't feel any smaller. Silly me. I'm going to keep an eye on the local classifieds to see if somebody is trying to sell my bike, but I will probably never see it again. Someone suggested we file a claim with our renters insurance to get it replaced, but I'm not sure if they'll cover it because it didn't happen in our Provo apt. We'll look into it anyway. Keep your fingers crossed!
OK, so the Palo Alto Zoo is closer to a petting zoo than an actual zoo, but it was still fun. I was pretty impressed that they had two bobcats. Other than that, it featured a few rabbits, a goose, some snakes, bats (but the bat house was closed), rats, and two ferrets. Here are a few pictures.
I had been looking forward to taking pictures of Leah while she was wearing this cute dress. Attempt number one (a week earlier) was a failure due to Leah having an extremely messy diaper that demanded a change of clothes pronto. Attempt number two was a success, don't you think? Here are a few of my favorite pictures of Leah at the park. I love the picture of Andrew holding her while she stands. That girl has strong legs. Let's ignore the fact that her arms are kind of pitiful. Andrew's a good dad, huh?
The last time we lived in the bay area for Andrew's first google internship, I had spent a day wandering around Stanford and really wanted to take Andrew because it's so pretty. We didn't really have a chance two years ago, so we made it happen this internship. Andrew had fun taking pictures the entire time, while I mainly played with Leah and watched Andrew.
By popular demand, I've decided to post a picture of the mattress that we bought on-line because everyone has commented that the cylinder Andrew's holding in a previous post can't possibly look like a normal mattress. Other than the fact that it's on the floor, I think it looks very normal. It's pretty comfortable too, but I prefer the pillow-top mattress we have at home.
I almost forgot to mention that Andrew and I think Leah's starting to teeth. I'm going to laugh if we're wrong, but we'll see. And Leah's started to express happiness with a really high-pitched screech. I'm working on getting a video of it because I think it's pretty funny. She smiles every once in a while too, but I haven't gotten a picture of that either - not for lack of trying. I'll keep you posted.
