Cecret Lake

Our most recent hike was to Cecret Lake. The spell-checker thinks that I meant "Secret Lake", "Cretan Lake", or "Excreta Lake". As awful as the name "Cecret Lake" may be, it wasn't bad enough to turn us away. In contrast, I think we would have seriously reconsidered a trip to Excreta Lake.

For this hike, we had five adults, one kid that needed to be carried all the time (Leah), one kid that needed to be carried most of the time (Benton), and one kid that needed to be carried part of the time (Brita). The 3/4 mile hike was short enough that Brita was happy the whole way up, but long enough that she needed help on the way down. There was some disagreement about whether this trail is really as family-friendly as it is billed, but I didn't think it was too bad. It was a fun hike with interesting scenery, including a number of huge granite boulders. At the lake, we got some nice pictures of the happy cousins:

Cecret Lake is at 9,220 feet. On a summer day, this is great because it keeps the temperature down. On a summer evening, it turns out that the temperature drops really quickly. The sun started to go down just as we were starting our picnic, and we were all shivering even before we started eating. Now we know for next time.
