Yellowstone
Nancy came for a visit. It was so fun! We had planned on meeting Nancy, Peter, Andrea, Brita, and Benton in Salt Lake, where were would eat a quick dinner and continue on to spend the night with Mima in Idaho. But luck was not on our side. Peter and Andrea had car problems that didn't manifest until they were driving to the restaurant. We still managed to meet for a family meal, but they couldn't make it to Idaho with us. Nancy moved all her stuff to our car, and we headed out. I have to say, Mima and Nancy are so hilarious when they're together. And Mima's such a great hostess. She really makes you feel welcome in her home.
As a side note, having a baby makes packing for a trip so complicated! And even when I think I've thought of everything, I still manage to forget something. I swear I used to be a light packer. I guess those days are gone.
The next morning, we headed out to our final destination: Yellowstone! Yay! It's so pretty! When Nancy called the hotel to cancel Peter and Andrea's room, she discovered that the restaurant she had made a reservation with was 60 miles away from our hotel. No, that is not a typo. 60 miles. How funny is that?! Yellowstone is huge, in case you were wondering. It was dark as we drove to the hotel, and we saw a huge wolf that glared at our bright headlights.
The hotel being so far from our hotel actually worked out great. We viewed a few mud pots, steam vents, and geysers (including Old Faithful) when we first got there. We ate dinner, and continued onto our hotel. The next morning we looked at some of the natural formations, went to Lamar Valley, and continued on to the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone. Throughout the day we saw bison, a bear eating a carcass in the distance, a bald eagle, pronghorn deer, and elk. Andrew and Nancy later saw another bear that some hikers had stumbled across. The bear was actually pretty close to the road. Andrew was worried about it being too close, and Nancy wanted it to come even closer. I tend to err on the side of caution as Andrew does.
My favorite part - of course - was the waterfall. We walked down more than 300 steps to get to this great view, but it was definitely worth it.

Have I ever mentioned that we have the best baby? She was so great and cooperative as we dragged her around throughout the day. She loved seeing new things, and slept in the car when she could.
