Pancakes with Pomegranate Syrup

Yesterday we had an amazing breakfast. Okay, you may be thinking that I shouldn't have quit Facebook if I wanted to post lame status updates, but I actually have two reasons for writing about breakfast.

First, I had never heard of pomegranate syrup before, but it turns out that I love it. We used Alton Brown's pomegranate syrup recipe.

Second, it's a great chance to poke fun at Karen. Her job was to make the pancake batter, which required two eggs. That sounds simple, but after struggling to crack an egg for a few minutes, she still wasn't any closer to producing a useful batter:
For the record, Karen was the one who hard-boiled the eggs, so don't let her blame me for anything. :)

    Oh Andrew, don't be crazy. I can blame you for anything I want. :)

    First, I can blame you for not giving an accurate account of the event. It did not take me "a few minutes" to figure out that I had grabbed the eggs out of the wrong carton. I was a little confused when I cracked the egg and it didn't separate like it should have. When I forced the egg apart I realized my error. It was easily less than one minute.

    Second, you shouldn't use the word "lame" twice in one sentence. The redundancy of the work breaks the flow of the text.

    Third, that pomegranate syrup needed way more sugar. I had to make the whipped cream really sweet just to counter the tartness of the syrup. Where's my thanks for that in your post? You didn't even notice until you tried the whipped cream all by itself.

    I've fixed the sentence that had "lame" twice, but it really did take you a while to force the egg apart. :)

    You can tell the difference between a raw and a hard-boiled egg by spinning the egg. The raw egg will wobble and the hard-boiled egg will spin nicely. Of course, if you aren't even wondering if the egg is hard boiled, it doesn't really work.

End of February

How can today be the last day of February already?  It still feels like the year just started. Andrew had his birthday. Yay for getting older! Life can only get better, right? We have a tradition of getting together with Ken and Jen (my old roommate and her man) to eat at Tucanos. Tucanos has a "Birthday Club," which means that if you sign up, they'll send you a paper for a free meal. It's on the pricier side to eat there, so I'm a fan of the "Birthday Club." We started this tradition back when we were dating because Andrew and Ken both have birthdays in February. We met up with Ken, Jen, Tyler, and Linda for our annual February Tacanos dinner on Friday night. Leah was really tired, so we didn't do anything afterward. We had scheduled it for two weeks earlier, but I ended up feeling really sick the night before and didn't get much sleep. I was not in the mood to eat anything, so we postponed. I thought I should share a few pictures on the ol' blog. A special thanks to pinterest for the brilliant idea of putting papers in sheet protectors for kids to trace. Leah has already dried out one expo marker since this morning. I'm going to need to limit how much she can play with it. I didn't want her to just scribble everywhere like she does with coloring books. So this morning I sat down and started tracing letters myself. She's a jealous soul when I don't invite her to play with me. It worked like a charm.
