Understanding the Word "No"

When Leah started crawling, she quickly became attracted to cables and wires. To keep her from hurting herself or breaking things, we've set a pretty strict rule that she isn't allowed to touch them. Whenever she gets close, we say, "No wires," and make her stop.  Over the last few weeks, she has begun to understand the word "no," but she still goes for the wires anyway.

Leah loves to lunge at a particularly tempting nook in our living room, between the TV and the end table, which has several different types of cables. A few days ago, we got tired of chasing her, so we put a big box right in the way. It was hard to get mad at Leah when she crawled into the end table to get access to the wires:

In an unrelated note, I took a picture of Leah in the oven. No, we aren't terrible parents—she just likes to use the shiny black doors on the oven and dishwasher as mirrors:

Leah also seemed to take offense at our post comparing her to a puppy. In an act of retaliation, she peed on Karen's shoe.
