Reading is now Leah's favorite activity. She prefers to read books at home rather than at the library. She likes the library, but trying to pull all of the books off of the shelves is so exciting that she has no desire to sit down with a book.
At home, it's completely different. If we ask, "would you like to read a book?", she quickly crawls across the room and picks one of her favorites. Depending on the size of the book, she may or may not succeed in bringing it back to us. Lifting the book in the air while hobbling on the three remaining limbs is a strategy that only seems to work for the smallest books. Walking while sliding the book along the carpet with her hands works surprisingly well, but she seems to have learned that crying for help is easier.
Let her choose all but each night or almost every night for a little while you should repeat that book over and over, hundreds of times. Pick a very very simple book with simple story or repetitive pictures and very big words(size)Maybe four or five ideas and read it out loud to her with lots of expressions and in no time she will learn those words on sight and she will know even when you have skipped a page. Then move to a little more advanced book etc. She will be reading by the time she is three. This little girl is amazing. CR
