Illinois
A few months ago we realized we had frequent flier miles that were about to expire. Can't let that happen. It was enough for a two-way ticket for one of us. Then, we got smart and realized we could use it for two one-way tickets from the Champaign airport. Since it's a small airport, it's way more expensive than flying into Chicago. But since Chicago is a three hour drive away, it's really nice to fly out of Champaign. We decided we couldn't let that opportunity go, so we chose to fly into Chicago, but fly out of Champaign.
Good choice. We were really excited to go. I was particularly excited to see more of Chicago. Technically, I've been there a number of times, but I had never had the chance to do more than drive through. We made plans to have Paul watch Leah at great-grandma McNabb's house while we spent a day in the city with Nancy.
Two weeks before our trip, Leah started to exhibit cold symptoms. I didn't think much of it, and figured she'd get over it. The day before we left, Leah was VERY clingy. I didn't get anything done all day. She just wanted to snuggle. She also didn't want to eat. All morning I tried to get her to eat, and finally around noon I got her to eat yogurt and drink some milk. Big mistake. I put her down for a nap and she woke up puking. Milk is so bad for an upset stomach. At least she was asleep for two hours. I called Andrew, picked him up from work, and in the car Leah threw up again. We took her into the urgent care (sans clothes because of the car incident) at BYU before they closed; they took an x-ray and gave us an antibiotic for her. The doctor was a little iffy about the x-ray, but decided to do it when we told her we were going out of town. We got her to take some apple juice, brought her home, she threw up again, we put her to bed.
We looked around the apartment and realized how much we needed to do before we went to bed. Two loads of laundry, packing our bags, cleaning up the kitchen, taking out the trash, return a book to the library, pay the utilities bill, and mailing some pictures to my mom for mother's day. I told you I didn't get anything done that day. It was a long night. We didn't get to sleep until 2am. We woke up at 5:30 to finish what we hadn't the night before, woke Leah up (who was in a good mood, thankfully) and headed out.
Though Leah's appetite was pretty bad for two more days, she at least kept what we gave her down. And then her appetite came back, with a vengeance. I'm glad we went, even though I was a little scared to travel with a sick baby on little sleep. It ended up working out. She slept on the plane.
In Chicago we visited the Field Museum, the Art Institute, walked along the lake, went on a speed boat, and walked under the Bean. Here are a few pictures:
While we were in Champaign we went shopping, saw some Amish farmers ploughing the fields with horses, let Leah see some cows and horses, meandered around Arlington Park, and visited great-grandpa Evans and Mary K. Good times. More pictures:
Oh, and do you notice that nice cut under Leah's lip? She tripped over a toy, and cut both sides of her lip with her teeth. She's had a hard two or three weeks.

Just realized I didn't separate the pictures. Oops.
