The Cabin
As planned, we flew across the country to attend Andrew's annual family reunion: The Bash.
We kicked off the week by flying into Atlanta, and staying at a cabin that Lisa's family owns. But I'd hate to skip over the adventurous part: the flight. Wow. I never want to experience that again. Leah threw up in the plane as we were starting to take off, without any warning that she wasn't feeling well. I lost count of how many times she threw up during the entire trip. Andrew had to change his clothes twice in the airplane lavatory. (Doesn't that sound like fun?!) At least we had clothes in our carry-on luggage for him and for Leah. I had to change my clothes twice also, but I was lucky and got to change in an airport bathroom and at Lisa's parents' house. After the flight we took a train to the outskirts of Atlanta where Evan and Lisa picked us up. We had a quick lunch, stopped by the Roo's house for gear and Tuxie, and continued to drive for two hours up curvy mountain roads to the cabin. That was a tough drive for Leah. It was a very long day. The second we finally got to the cabin, Leah was much happier and stopped throwing up. And we had a lot of laundry to do, pronto. And showers.
We figured that it was motion sickness since she was fine the minute she wasn't moving anymore. We were wrong. A few days later I started feeling nauseous. A few other people started exhibiting symptoms too. Andrew dubbed our little bundle of joy "Typhoid Leah."
On a happier note, we had a great time at the cabin. I realize that I'm not in any of the pictures, but I promise I was there.
We went to a train museum, which is really an enthusiast's living room. Impressive.
We went rafting, but we don't have any pictures to prove it. Sorry, but I'm just not willing to bring my nice camera onto a raft.
I made a bracelet for Leah at a bead store, while Ensley made one for herself and Nancy made one for Brita.
Then we headed to North Carolina for the bash. En route, we stopped by the largest private residence in the United States, the Biltmore House. It was insanely huge.

I like the picture of Grandpa blowing on the yellow recorder which spread massive sickness! :-) Glad you guys were able to visit! -Evan
ReplyDeleteThat sounds awful that Leah was so sick on the trip. I can't imagine poor Andrew having to change in an airplane lavatory, I don't know how he managed that. I'm sorry I know I keep commenting, but Leah is the cutest thing ever!! I love that picture of her and Stuart (?spelling not sure if that's how he spells his name)and her nose to nose with the little dog...that is too cute!!
ReplyDeleteCathleena, I actually had to change in the lavatory TWICE. The second time, I was more efficient due to practice, but I had to use pyjama pants because I had already used my spare pair of jeans. That was definitely an interesting flight. :)
