July in a Nutshell

We really wanted to see fireworks for the Fourth of July, but were worried that Leah would be really cranky if we dragged her along. The only time to see fireworks is way past her bedtime. We worked really hard to convince her that she should take an afternoon nap. Lucky for us, she did take it. So we put her to bed, woke her up a few hours later, and saw the fireworks at Thanksgiving Point. She did ok, but was definitely ready to go home by the end. At the beginning of the show, she was very excited and made a lot of sincere "oooh" and "ahhh" noises. Andrew had fun playing with the camera and tripod.  Not as much fun as he would have liked because Leah wanted his attention, and we forgot to empty the memory card before going so the camera filled up all the way.  First time we've ever done that.  I'm glad we went and we had a good time.

Look what I made!  I found a free pattern online.  I was a little scared about how it would turn out, but I really like it.  It feels so much lighter than my other diaper bag.  And I love that it has so many pockets on the inside to keep things organized.  It is a little bigger than I thought it would be based on the picture I saw before making it, but that's ok.  And it only cost me $25 in materials.  I don't consider myself a crafty person, but I guess I can hold my own. Andrew doesn't want to use it because I made it girly.  Can't blame him.

Andrew's really busy with teaching this summer. Overall, I think he likes it. It's good that he's teaching summer term. I'm tutoring a little bit still, but I'm not as busy as I am during the school year. And it doesn't matter what time he comes home because everyone I'm tutoring right now comes to our apt for our appointments, and don't mind Leah getting in the way sometimes. It works out great. He's so busy and I completely understand how much work he needs to do. I've been there! I helped him grade tests from the first midterm.  Lucky for me, he's teaching a math class geared for computer science majors, so I can actually help grade some of the questions.  We stayed up until 3 am together grading those tests.  We were both really tired the next day. But at least the job was done.

Leah is driving me crazy because she's climbing! She hasn't made it to the top of the kitchen table, but not for lack of trying. All of the things that used to be out of her reach are now in her reach. Not my favorite phase.

She says "no" and shakes her head. It's cute. She also says "oosh" instead of "shoe." And she's going through a hugging phase. I love it, especially when she starts patting/rubbing my back. She's also been trying to walk wearing our shoes.
