Museums

Since we decided to rent a car for half of the week that we were in Arizona, we crammed everything that required a car into a few days. Brenda managed to get a few free/discounted passes to local museums, so we spent the first few days seeing a few of the attractions.

Phoenix Art Museum

The adults were all excited to visit the art museum, but Kayla wasn't. Making art is fun, but looking at other people's art sounded boring. Despite her skepticism, she had a great time. Unlike most modern art exhibits we've seen, the Contemporary Art wing of the museum was actually interesting, even for children. Our favorite was the Swarm of Fireflies, a nearly pitch-black room whose walls, floor, and ceiling were mirrors. Small lights that hung from the ceiling were multiplied by reflection, evoking a feeling of endless space filled with stars. Kayla and Leah went through the exhibit three times.

The cousins were excited to spend time together.

Kayla was thrilled to find an art studio for kids. She could have stayed there all day.

Leah and Tyler would rather run around and climb on things. Their personalities are very similar.

Natural History Museum

At the Natural History Museum, the kids enjoyed putting together dinosaur puzzles and panning for fool's gold.

Hall of Flame

Did you know that before firetrucks were common, fire carts were pulled by volunteer firemen? Many fire departments couldn't afford the upkeep of horses. You learn something new everyday. The kids had a good time climbing one of the old firetrucks.
