Oliver's Room

Oliver's room used to have an uncanny resemblance to a green screen. We never banked on that opportunity. I'll have to live with that regret.

It's safe to say that we made a huge improvement.

Here's a picture of the opposite wall that shows the awful green some more.
I don't know what the previous owners were thinking when they picked this color. They even painted the bottom of the window ledge. The window ledges are made out of marble. Why would anyone paint marble?!

The clear light bulbs and the textured light fixture made the lighting very splotchy, as you can see. We put in some frosted light bulbs; we don't have that problem anymore.

    Definitely a great improvement. I like a bit of color, but that original green is irredeemably awful. Is there any way to save that granite? Maybe with some paint thinner?

      It actually came off pretty well with a razor blade, but there's probably a little more touching up to do.

End of February

How can today be the last day of February already?  It still feels like the year just started. Andrew had his birthday. Yay for getting older! Life can only get better, right? We have a tradition of getting together with Ken and Jen (my old roommate and her man) to eat at Tucanos. Tucanos has a "Birthday Club," which means that if you sign up, they'll send you a paper for a free meal. It's on the pricier side to eat there, so I'm a fan of the "Birthday Club." We started this tradition back when we were dating because Andrew and Ken both have birthdays in February. We met up with Ken, Jen, Tyler, and Linda for our annual February Tacanos dinner on Friday night. Leah was really tired, so we didn't do anything afterward. We had scheduled it for two weeks earlier, but I ended up feeling really sick the night before and didn't get much sleep. I was not in the mood to eat anything, so we postponed. I thought I should share a few pictures on the ol' blog. A special thanks to pinterest for the brilliant idea of putting papers in sheet protectors for kids to trace. Leah has already dried out one expo marker since this morning. I'm going to need to limit how much she can play with it. I didn't want her to just scribble everywhere like she does with coloring books. So this morning I sat down and started tracing letters myself. She's a jealous soul when I don't invite her to play with me. It worked like a charm.
